RE: Is Victory a silent American?

I have tried to like those fenders :-) Really! I would like to drive a sport bike just to see how it is but that is as far as that goes. I have always liked the cruisers the best.

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

Victory's are OK. There is so much "style" going on with them that I feel like they are trying to tell me what I should like. You know like TV, Movies and everything else...Wanna buy an iPod? Hey!! You need a new CELL PHONE!
As for the Indians....Ugly fender no wonder they keep going out of business...They picked a "style" that appeals to who? Well guys that like GIANT whitewalls and those ain't many. I hope they make it though.
May not make much sense to you guys but it does to me :-)

RE: forum for maxi scooters?

Scooters are great and I wish I had one. Since scooters are frequently in Rider they should have a forum

RE: New to site

Grippy,
I'm pretty sure I got that right. It goes way back to the wild west days. But I agree that most people call them Chapps.
But I'm wondering about the experience that you reference.
Are you mentioning this from personal experience?
Inquiring minds want to know...
No I just know some things and that's one of them. :-)
If you'da asked for shapps in the old west they'da called ya a city boy.
And to answer your forthcoming question...I'm not that old.

RE: New to site

Chaps (pronounced Shapps) are ok 'cept they don't cover your butt.
Good post except they are pronounced CHAPS...If you went somewhere and asked for shapps (which may be technically correct-but I ain't doing the research) they'd smirk at ya and kick sand on you or throw used oil on ya :-)

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

If anyone doubts Vstar-Guy's wisdom on this...Just look at the pictures in Rider. I can't recall where branded clothing wasn't being warn. BUT I don't care as I am a capitalist. I never buy garments that advertise companies though I did get stuck with HJC on my helmet.
There are a lot of Harley dudes compared to Victory dudes. If I know this Rider knows it and acts accordingly. I must add that I see little if any brand bias in Rider. What I do see is them getting bigger woodies for certain brands.

RE: New to site

2. There are only two kinds of riders: Those that have been down and those that are going down. Once you have gone down, you will have a healthier respect for what you are riding.
Whew, Don't scare the boy. There are two kinds of riders. Those that pay attention and those that don't. If you pay attention your chances are good if you don't pay attention your chances are bad.

RE: New to site

Steve
I give everyone the same advice. Buy a smallish beater bike and ride it for a while until you are comfortable.
Bad advice. Buy a beater bike? No. Buy a smaller bike, OK. Buy a used bike, OK.
Safety is paramount as pointed out further along but a beater bike, esp if you are new to biking? How is one going to know if it is a safe bike. If someone is new to the sport they aren't going to be a mechanic.

RE: Since I don't have an American V-Twin

It's everywhere. I had
had a couple buddies that had beers during a lunch stop and I sent them on their merry way without me. We haven't rode together since.
I have been panned at forums for writing against the "let's stop for lunch, wink wink." Attitude.
Don't drive to the pub for a beer!

RE: New to site

I am also new here. I recently bought a 07 aero and I like the bike but I am outgrowing it very fast. How do you like your vtx. How does it maneuver at low speed. Thanks
The VTX 1300 is very good at low speeds. I am 6 ft and a skinny 170 lbs and it does quite well for me.
I take it to the church parking lot and practice though.
My '04 is a heavy, big motorcycle. I can't see anyone having a problem with it's size though as long as you think about what you are doing. I have arthritic knees the left one bad and my driveway is gravel and almost in the swamp. In Spring the drive is a tad spongy so it takes most of my strength to back it up. Sometimes the gravel slides and my foot slips but it hasn't caused a problem yet.
In short if you are on cement and a weakling such as myself you will have no problem as long as you remember what you have.
Hope this helps
